光時域反射儀 - OTDR(Optical Time Domain Reflectometer),廣泛的運用於光纖網路的施工及維護,能找出光纖誤點定位、光纖線纜長度和光纖的傳輸損耗。檢驗的方式是由打進光突波(光脈衝)的同一側接收光訊號,因打入的訊號遇到不同折射率介質會散射及反射回來,反射回來的光訊號強度會被測量到,且為時間的函數,並能換算成光纖的長度。光纖損耗的數值對於施工人員是非常重要的數據,損耗的數值會影響光纖傳輸並造成干擾。使用OTDR可以檢測損耗並且快速定位故障區域,使得維修更加方便,減少光纖網路傳輸的問題。一般常見的OTDR都能經由USB與電腦連接,以便在測試過程中數值能被傳輸到電腦中用於分析和儲存。

OTDR has been used in fiber optic network installation and troubleshooting. It is an optoelectronic instrument used to characterize an optic fiber. OTDR is a test instrument not only can identify the fault location and the length of optical fiber cable, but also can measure the loss of optical power. It also extracts, from the same end of the fiber light that is scattered or reflected back from points along the fiber. The loss of optical power cause interference of optical transmission, it’s the most concerned point from optical maintenance and troubleshooting. OTDRs are able to upload data to PC in order for engineer to analyze test result.
